Give us some history about the pub:
The Duke William is a family run country pub serving traditional home-cooked food, from local suppliers. You’ll find cask ales, a real fire and a warm welcome so bring the whole family and even the dog! The pub was built as a coaching in on the main Liverpool to Leeds coaching route in 1737. It retains much of it’s charm with low ceilings, small rooms and friendly atmosphere. In the 1800s it was used as the location of the local coroner’s court - oh if only these 3 feet thick walls could talk!
Is food served? If so what’s on the menu?
Yes we have a full menu including basics like steaks, burgers, fish and chips, steak and ale pie through to Clay Pot Pork, Pan Roasted cod, Curry of the Day, chicken kebabs. Our sticky toffee pudding, cheesecakes, and other desserts are a great way to end your meal.
Is there a beer garden?
Yes. We spent a lot of time and money during Covid - and it’s a real sun trap
Most popular drink served is:
Moorhouse’s White Witch or Moretti lager
Most memorable moment at the pub:
World premiere of a film made by two of our regular customers. Several staff had acting roles along with other regulars. A second film is being filmed and staff will again feature.
Do you have an entertainment line-up?
Quiz nights on last Thursday of the month and several music performances throughout the year
Have you faced any challenges within the industry?
Covid was very strange but we are getting over that. Getting staff, especially chefs, since has been difficult but we have got together and amazing team
Best thing about running a pub is...
The customers who keep coming back because they enjoy the food, the location and atmosphere
Worst thing about running a pub is...
The long hours
