Bolton is the fifth best place in the UK for parking spaces, a study has found.

In research into British cities and large towns, Bolton was rated the fifth best for the number of parking spaces per 1,000 cars.

The study, which was carried out by car finance company Moneybarn, surveyed cities and large towns in the UK, finding out how many parking spaces operated by one of the industry's leaders NCP they had compared to the number of cars registered in the area.

Bolton came out fifth best in the study, with 23.35 parking spaces for every thousand cars registered here.

The study found that the town has 2,935 NCP parking spaces, with 126,260 cars licensed in the area.

Nearby boroughs Manchester and Salford were also in the top 20, with Manchester being first, with 37.77 NCP parking spaces per thousand cars, while Salford came 14th with 12.83 parking spaces per thousand cars.

The only other places to beat Bolton for parking spaces alongside Manchester were Cambridge, Colchester and Leicester.

Meanwhile, the three worst places in the country for NCP parking spaces are Chester, Exeter and Bournemouth.

Exeter and Bournemouth respectively had 1.21 and 1.15 spaces per thousand cars, while Chester came in with 0.39 parking spaces per thousand cars, 96 times less spaces than first-placed Manchester.

Bolton, meanwhile, was in the top 10 for another parking metric: the most affordable UK cities to park your car.

Bolton finished 10th in the country, with an average price of £1.85 an hour for parking, compared to least expensive Chelmsford, which averaged £1 an hour.

Meanwhile, Edinburgh was the worst city for car parking affordability, coming in with a gut-churning £7.78 average cost for a one hour stay.

Are spaces in Bolton as plentiful as the study suggests, or are they hard to come by? Let us know in the comments.
