A pop-up tearoom has closed following a summer period of success due to staffing shortages.

Poppy’s Tea Room, run by Suzanne Halliwell, was in place from June till August 25 at the Global Interiors showroom in Bolton.

Global Interior’s had hoped it would stay until September, but the pop-up had to leave early due to Suzanne’s other commitments including running the Sunnyhurst Pub in Darwen.

Suzanne said: “It was always just meant to be for the summer, and we only closed two days before we initially planned because we didn’t have the staff.

“We had the best part of three months, it was lovely to be there but it was never intended to be a long time thing anyway.”

Along with this, Global released a statement on Facebook explaining they would not be hiring out space to another restaurant.

Instead, the company will fill the space up with more furniture and are excited for an upcoming event.

Poppy’s Tea Room became popular with people in Bolton, but it ran into problems due to traffic on Crompton Way where people got stuck and couldn’t get to the tearoom.

Suzanne said: “I have to admit the traffic problems on Crompton Way did cause some issues with queues up to Bolton Town.

“People told us they couldn’t get here and that may have put some of them off but other than that we’ve had a really good reception.

“We’ve made friends and had a good experience but now it’s back to Darwen.”

Global Interior’s Donna Burrell and Suzanne have been friends since their school days and came up with the idea when the space became available.

In a statement on social media, Donna of Global Interiors said: “We’ve had a wonderful summer with our ‘pop up’ tearoom and we know you’ll join us in wishing Suzanne and the team all the very best with Dolly’s and her new pub the Sunnyhurst in the future.

“Poppy’s was only ever going to be temporary.

"It was literally Poppy’s pop up, we’d originally planned to keep Poppy’s with us until the end of September.

“However, Suzanne has just taken on a very popular pub in Darwen which she is reopening tomorrow.

“Staffing issues there, and staffing shortages in the hospitality industry meant a decision had to be made quickly, so Poppys has closed a little earlier than expected."
