A man who was spared jail after taking part in a ‘barbaric and mindless’ pub attack has been brought before the courts again.

Dylan Wood aged 24 of Pinewood Close, Bolton was involved in a mass brawl at the Blackhorse Pub on Bury Road, Tonge Fold, nearly three years ago which started after someone had thrown a chair.

He was ordered to carry out unpaid work as part of his sentence but has now been brought before Bolton Crown Court again after missing two of his appointments, which the Honarary Recorder for Bolton Judge Martin Walsh warned could have serious consequences for him.

Addressing Wood, he said: “I want to make it clear to you that if you fail to meet the requirements a second time, then it will mean the sentence is no longer suspended.”

Katherine Wright, prosecuting, told the court how Wood had first been sentenced for affray on June 18 2021 for the fight which broke out on November 29 2019.

At the time, Judge John Potter described the fight as ‘barbaric and mindless behaviour.’

Wood was spared jail.

But he was given a sentence of eight months suspended for two years along with an order to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work and according to Ms Wright has missed appointments on June 8 and June 15 this year.

Aside from this, she admitted that his compliance with his order had been ‘generally good.’

Judge Walsh decided to spare Wood a jail sentence but ordered that, instead of completing unpaid work, he must obey a curfew and is to be electronically tagged to make sure he complies.

This will order him to stay at his home between 8pm and 6am every day for three months.

Addressing Wood again, Judge Walsh said: “I want to make it clear that you have breached the order by not doing the unpaid work and that the curfew replaces the unpaid work.”
