Another big name Bolton town centre shop is to close, it has been announced.
Argos in Bridge Street is to close later this year.
Managers have not announced a date for the closure and say staff will be offered roles at Sainsburys, of which Argos is a part.
An Argos spokesperson said: “Our Bolton Bridge Street Argos store will close later this year and colleagues are being offered opportunities to redeploy to alternative roles within Sainsbury’s.
“Customers can continue to shop with us at our nearby stores, including our Argos store within Bolton Shopping Park on Trinity Street.”
Managers are looking to reduce the number of standalone Argos stores while opening more collection points and Argos stores within Sainsbury's.
The store on Trinity Street will remain open and there are no plans to close it.
The move to close the town centre store have left some shoppers upset.
Paul Davies from Halliwell is a frequent shopper at the store, making trips all throughout the year for various household appliances.
He said: “I walked in to buy a kettle, the one at home broke and I like a certain brand.
“I shop there several times a year.
“We do all of our Christmas shopping there, we probably spend around £400 buying gifts for family and friends.
“The one in Sainsbury’s is so small, we’ll have to travel to Middlebrook or Bury and those are further away now.
“The town centre one was ideal because you can just go in along the way while you shop nearby.”
Decathlon in Bolton Town Centre to close and open in Horwich
Decathlon is another store that closed and moved from Bolton Town’s Trinity Park and moved to Horwich instead.
More than half of all Argos stores are now located within Sainsbury’s supermarkets, since the supermarket giant bought the catalogue retailer in 2016.
Argos now operate over 400 stores in this way and have made plans to continue with this in future.
But there is now doubt as jobs will be lost within the store.
