New parks could be created in Bolton town centre with a plan set to be presented to the public next week.
Bolton has been named as one of 19 areas across the region to receive a slice of £9million worth of funding for new parks and improving green spaces.
A presentation will now take place on Monday, looking at how the park funding could be spent as well as examining the progress of Bolton’s various levelling up bids with members of the public free to attend.
Corporate and External Scrutiny Committee chair Cllr Richard Silvester said: “We shall also find out if any pocket parks can be created and what levelling up bids have been and will be made throughout the Borough to the Government.
“Of course, we have a Conservative administration running Bolton Council so they shall be on the spot so to speak during the various agenda items and debates.
“As this is a public meeting and there is a great deal of public interest in Bolton Town Centre and what is happening with it, I would like to invite residents to either attend the meeting in person and to sit and watch the various presentations from the public gallery.”
The new park on Ashburner Street is planned for the former Odeon site
A previous plan for a pocket park, on the former Odeon Cinema site on Ashburner Street, has already been announced and approved with the area set be converted into a park with lawns, a performance area and a paved area with seating and picnic areas.
The new funding could also help to improve green spaces already in existence, according to executive cabinet member for environmental services, Cllr Nadim Muslim.
He said: “Parks and green spaces in Bolton provide a peaceful space for people to relax, exercise, and socialise, but some of these spaces are in need of a revamp.
“Therefore, I am delighted that Bolton has been awarded a share of the £9 million Levelling Up Parks Fund to improve our local green spaces.”
The Corporate and External Issues Scrutiny Committee meeting will take place on Monday August 22 at 6pm.
