Bolton’s Vernon Kay is regularly gracing TV screens presenting This Morning, but he can also be found in the fast lane.
Going from T4 in 2017, most Boltonians may not know that he presents the ever-growing sister for Formula 1 - Formula E.
Formula E is the world’s first fully electric car racing series and while Vernon initially knew little about the sport in general, he’s since become a well-known face in the paddock.
Last weekend, the TV presenter was seen at the home race at London’s ExCel.
He took to Instagram to share pictures of himself at the race, captioning it: “One of the best @fiaformulae race events in its very short life.
“London season eight was mega! Thanks team.”
With 16 races in nine locations, it’s a little bit different to F1, mainly because it promotes all electric cars and has been dubbed the future of motorsport.
Formula E and Channel 4 announced in January that the broadcaster will become the UK’s exclusive free-to-air TV home of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship in a multi-year broadcast agreement beginning this season.
While travelling around the world from New York, Diriyah and Mexico City, Vernon never forgets his Bolton roots and often tweets his support for the Wanderer’s football team.
The 47-year-old from Horwich won a legion of new fans after his stint on I'm a Celebrity.
He follows in the footsteps of fellow T4 alumni, Steve Jones, who now presents F1 on Channel 4 and perhaps the trendsetter, Jake Humphry, who forged an incredibly successful career as the lead host for Channel 4 F1, back when Sky didn’t run it.
Now, Vernon loves the sport, mentioning in the past how he learnt a lot by just the drivers, who know everything about the cars.
Earlier this year, Vernon was back in Bolton for an exclusive Q&A event with Coronation Street and Emmerdale stars.
He hosted the event at the Bolton Whites Hotel on January 29 where he quizzed three northern special guests about their lives on TV.
He donated his fee to Bolton Wanderers in the Community.
Originally from Bolton, Vernon now lives in Beaconsfield with his wife Strictly Come Dancing presenter Tess Daly and they share two children.
