Detectives have launched an investigation after a man suffered life-changing injuries.
The man was found at a house and is currently in intensive care in hospital
Police have been at the scene since Sunday morning investigating.
A police car remains on the scene today.
No details have been released on how the man suffered the horrific injuries, but an appeal for information has been launched by police.
Police were called to Gadbury Fold, Atherton - close to Over Hulton - just after 8am after a receiving reports a man was seriously injured.
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "Police were called to an address on Gadbury Fold in Atherton at 8.05am on Sunday 31 July 2022 to reports of a seriously injured man.
“The male has sustained life-changing injuries and remains in intensive care.
“Wigan CID are currently investigating, and officers and forensic experts have been conducting a search at the address, which is likely to be concluded on Wednesday evening.”
Residents in the area described seeing crime scene investigators at the property yesterday and have shared concern as to what has happened.
One resident said they were ‘shocked to see the police presence and CID, because it doesn’t usually happen in the area’.
It is also understood that the Tactical Aid Unit were also in attendance.
One told The Bolton News: "The police have been here since Sunday and are not telling us a thing.
"Tactical Aid Units were here on Sunday and we have seen CSI.
"There have been so many police officers on the estate."
