Police patrols will be stepped up in Bolton after a number of attacks in the town centre in recent, a councillor has said.

Cllr Mudassir Dean, heads up community safety in Bolton, and he said he has contacted police regarding outbreaks of violence in the town centre.

Police were called to three attacks in Bolton town centre on the same night - with one man left in serious life-threatening condition.

Emergency services were called to Bradshawgate on Tuesday night.

The first attack happened at around 8pm when a man and a woman were assaulted.

The man, in his 20s, suffered a serious head injury and is being treated at Salford Royal Hospital.

Later the same evening, at 11pm, officers were called to another report of an assault, which was unrelated.

A man was assaulted. But police say the victim did not wish to provide a statement.

Police were called to the town centre the following day to another incident, in which a man was detained.

Cllr Dean said: "The town centre has been exceptionally busy the last two weeks.

"There has been a lot of people there.

"I have spoken to the officers at GMP.

"They have assured me there will me more patrols out at the weekend."

Cllr Dean recently said following a meeting with Chief Superintendent Stephanie Parker that police were moving in the right direction.

And Chief Constable Stephen Watson also hailed the return of the 18 cell custody suite to Bolton as a move which has been able to ensure that more arrests can take place and bring down crime.
