A historian will explore the site of a disaster in Bolton which took place more than 100 years ago.

A total of 344 people lost their lives at the Hulton Colliery on the border with Atherton in 1910 when an underground explosion took place.

Of the 349 who went down, only four survived to be brought to the surface.

The event became kown as the Pretoria Pit Tragedy.

And next month historian Alan Davies will explore the site of the disaster at Broadway Over Hulton.

The event will be hosted by the Over Hulton Community Group on Saturday, August 13 at 10am.
