Plans to build almost 60 new houses and a through road could be set to go ahead after a crucial decision was made.
The proposal will see a total of 59 homes built on Academy Way in Lostock along with a through road linking the development to Bolton Wanderers Football Academy.
Developers say this will create new jobs and family homes but concerns had been raised about the effect this could have on parking in the area before the decision was brought before Bolton Council's planning committee.
Cllr Nick Peel said: “It’s one of the last pieces of the jigsaw with regard to housing development in this area, it’s a relatively unused landlocked piece of land that’s got housing allocation on it.
“It’s not creating any controversy because I think that people just accept that this is the final stage in the development of this land, other than that my support for the application is based on the principle.”
The plans will see 59 new homes and a through road built
The development is set to consist of 22 detached houses, 28 semi-detached and nine mews/terraced houses.
Of these, 12 would be four bed, 36 would be three bed, and 11 would be two bed.
Cllr Debbie Newell, who also sits on the planning committee said that she was concerned about the potential for contamination on the site but would still be supporting the bid
She said: “Obviously its not a reason for refusal today but I do think its something that should be acknowledged that there are concerns about contaminations on this site.”
Cllr Elaine Sherrington said that she too would be supporting the proposal but was concerned that about new estates tendency to 'all look exactly the same'.
She said: “I think somebody just goes online picks a house and that’s how they do it.
“I always feel sorry for the architects these days because none of their skill or practice is being taken into consideration of how they could actually make something look a little bit different.”
Ultimately the committee voted unanimously to defer the decision for approval to the director of place.
