A man has been left with "life-changing" injuries after a crash in Bolton this morning, Sunday.

A car crashed into the central reservation on Wigan Road at around 7.30am.

The road was closed between the M61 junction and Knutshaw Crescent but has now been reopened.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At around 7.30am on Sunday, fire crews were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Wigan Road, Bolton.

“Two fire engines from Bolton Central, as well as the technical response unit from Leigh, quickly attended the incident, which involved one car colliding with street furniture.

“Two men were treated at the scene before being taken to hospital by North West Ambulance Service (NWAS).

“Firefighters used specialist equipment to make the area safe. GMFRS crews were in attendance for around an hour before handing the scene over to Greater Manchester Police (GMP).”

Earlier this morning, a spokesperson from Bolton Central Fire Station said a casualty was taken to hospital with "life-changing" injuries following the crash.

The spokesperson said: “Fire crews attended the scene at 7.30am this morning after a collision on the A58, Wigan Road.

“It was a one-car collision into the central reservation and the casualty has been taken to hospital with life-changing injuries.

“The road was closed off between the M61 junction and Knutshaw Crescent but the scene has now been cleared and is open again."
