A 16-year-old with a crippling skin condition could barely contain his excitement when he saw his ride for his prom was a Lamborghini.
Rhys Williams was smiling from ear to ear when he saw the white Lamborghini pull up to his drive in Johnson Fold to take him to his prom at The Last Drop in Bromley Cross on June 28.
The Sharples Secondary School student was dressed in a white shirt and blue tie as Carmina Hearst and her partner drove him to the prom.
Carmina had come to the rescue after Rhys’ mum, Tanya Williams forgot it was his prom until the night before, when he reminded her.
The teenager suffers from a crippling skin condition called epidermolysis bullosa, which leaves him covered in blisters, with the skin on his hands and legs fused together.
Tanya said: “I felt awful that I forgot so I put a post up on Facebook asking for help and Carmina messaged me saying she wanted to take him to the prom.
“She put my mind to ease, and we were happy to let him go.
“It was an experience for him because he loves cars, especially sports cars and he will never forget that.
“He was in his element, and you can see on the video how much it means to him.”
Tanya wanted to keep the sports car as a surprise for Rhys, but the teenager admitted he had overheard his parents speak about it, but was excited nonetheless.
“He loved the whole night, he had the best time drinking Pepsi max from a wine glass.
“He’s quite social anyway so he likes going to events.
“I feel this was amazing and it makes you look at the world differently because a lot of people when we go out will stare and can be quite rude.
“But so many people have shown nothing but kindness and when people asked him about his ride in the car, it made him feel good that he was recognised as being a kid in a car and not for his condition.”
Back in 2019, thousands of people from across the world responded to the family’s appeal in the Bolton News to send Rhys birthday cards and goodwill messages and he received more than 9,000 cards.
