Essential Living completed an index that revealed six dog-friendly botanic gardens as the best in the North when it comes to strolling through meadows with your furry friend.
If you’re looking for a new walk or a day out with your four-legged companion, look no further as three of the botanic gardens in the list are less than a two-hour drive from Bolton.
Other botanic gardens that made the list are located further afield, including in Belsay, Newcastle Upon Tyne and Corbridge.

Cholmondeley Castle Gardens comes at the top of the list and with 670 acres for your dog to run free, we can see why.
It gained an accessibility score of 10/10, 69 local pubs and an annual DogFest, it could become your new favourite spot.
The journey from Bolton takes around 1.5 hours by car.
In second place on the list is Fletcher Moss Park and Gardens in Didsbury, Manchester.
It’s part garden and part wildlife habitat and boasts tennis courts, rugby and football pitches plus a family run café, meaning there’s fun to be had for all the family.
The Didsbury is a dog-friendly pub near the entrance to the garden and the car park can be used by walkers.
The journey from Bolton takes around one hour by car.
Sitting in third place is Wordsworth Daffodil Garden which you’ll find in the small village of Grasmere in Cumbria.
The idea of this dog-friendly garden is to raise funds to promote the heritage of the Vale of Grasmere and its traditional ways of Lake District life.
