MULTI-million plans to renovate Farnworth's high street have been unveiled.

Proposals focus on Market Street and Councill Square with a view to transforming the public space outside Home Bargains.

Plans drawn up include delivering pedestrian and cycle facilities along Market Street, planting trees and providing additional seating.

The scheme is part of a wider £13.3M package to transform the area.

The proposals form part of Transport for Greater Manchester's 'Streets for All' scheme.

Work would be funded by part of the government’s £13.3m Future High Street Funding grant awarded to Farnworth in 2020, with just under £3m to be spent on this project.

Now Farnworth residents are being invited to have their say.

Representatives of designers Mott MacDonald and council staff will be on hand to offer insights into the plans, situated at Brackley Street, on Friday, July 1 and Saturday, July 2 between 10am and 3pm.

The plans have already been presented to local ward councillors and members of the Farnworth Town Centre Steering Group.

Other projects to be funded by Future High Streets grant are the redevelopment of the Market Precinct, including the creation of a new community and civic hub in the heart of the town centre, and an extension to Farnworth Leisure Centre.

Bolton Council adopted the wider Farnworth Town Centre Masterplan in 2019 following extensive consultation with local people.

It sets out plans to maximise the potential of the town through sustainable regeneration.

Bolton Council’s Executive Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Cllr Adele Warren, said: “It is an exciting time for Farnworth with so many regeneration projects in the pipeline.

“From the beginning, we have involved residents in shaping the plans for Farnworth and we are keen for everyone to have their say on the Streets for All proposals.

“This will help make Farnworth a more accessible and enjoyable place to live, work and visit."
