A list of road closures has been announced ahead of this year’s Ironman UK festival in Bolton next month.

Ironman is one of the year’s most highly anticipated athletics events and has proven to be one of the borough’s most popular visitors’ attraction.

The event returned last year after having been forced to take a break due to the Covid-19 pandemic and this July will see athletes take to Bolton’s roads again.

A statement from the Ironman organisers said: “We would like to thank the local community, councils and athletes for supporting this event over the last years and are delighted to bring Ironman UK back to Bolton on Sunday July 3, 2022.

“Temporary road closures will be in place on Ironman UK race day to ensure the safety of athletes and the public.

“These legal road closures are implemented under the Road Traffic Regulation (Special Events) Act 1994, and apply to all motorized vehicles, cycles and equestrian traffic that are not involved in the event.”

The closures will be on Chorley New Road, Park Road, Mayor Road, Spa Road, Chorley Street, Bark Street, Le Mans Crescent, Howell Croft, St George’s Road, Bridge Street, Folds Road, Tonge Moor Road and Thicketford Road.
