A town centre pub is to undergo a half-a-million pound revamp.
Wetherspoons will shut later this month for the huge transformation.
Under the plans, a new customer area, booth seating an upgraded coffee station area and a new lobby will be installed at the Spinning Mule on Nelson Square.
And there will be new carpets, new toilets and an updated staff room.
Wetherspoon spokesperson Eddie Gershon said: “The Spinning Mule is an extremely popular.
“Wetherspoon pub and the company is always keen to offer its customers and staff the best possible pub and facilities.
“We apologise to customers that the pub will be closed for a short while in order for the work to be undertaken.
“However, we are confident that they will welcome the investment in the pub and its new-look once it reopens.”
The Spinning Mule, which featured as The Bolton News’ pub of the week in August 2020, has long been one of the most popular drinking spots in Bolton town centre.
It owes its name to the invention which revolutionised the cotton industry, a hugely important symbol of the region’s heritage, while a statue of inventor Samuel Crompton stands just outside the pub in Nelson Square.
Wetherspoon hopes that the planned revamp will help to build on this popularity and attract new customers.
The plans for the Spinning Mule also include redecorating the first floor, a new area for visitors at the back, as well a new carpet and LED lighting
The work is set to get underway the week after next on June 20, but Mr Gershon says that the pub will be able to stay open at this stage.
But the main work will then get underway and the pub will have to close temporarily on June 27.
It will then stay closed for the rest of the month and into July while the new facilities are installed and the decorations are undertaken.
Mr Gershon says that Wetherspoon expects that the Spinning Mule unveil its new look and reopen for business on July 15.
