Trains are currently delayed or not running from and through Bolton Station due to a fault with the signalling system.
There are delays of up to 30 minutes with many trains cancelled from the station.
Disruption is expected to last until 8am.
A statement from Nothern Railway said: “Due to a fault with the signalling system between Bolton and Blackburn the line is blocked.
“Train services running through these stations will be cancelled or delayed by up to 30 minutes. Disruption is expected until 08:00 07/06.
“Train services are unable to run between Bolton and Blackburn (In this direction only) we are currently unable to serve Hall i' th' Wood, Bromley Cross, Entwistle and Darwen.
“Services that run between Blackburn and Bolton are currently unaffected, however they are likely to pick up delays of up to 15 minutes.”
Northern advise customers to check before travelling as Network Rail are on site and are looking to resolve the issue.
A statement from Travel for Greater Manchester said: “Due to a fault with the signalling system between Bolton and Blackburn the line is blocked.
“Services running through these stations will be cancelled or delayed by up to 30 minutes.”
