A suspected burglar has been arrested after driving down the wrong side of a motorway in what appeared to be a stolen car.
According to police, the Skoda Fabia was stolen in a burglary in the Worsley area on Sunday May 29.
The burglar then drove on the wrong side of the M60 before eventually being arrested after running away on foot having hit several other parked vehicles.
A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “A Skoda Fabia stolen on the May 29 from Worsley would make off from ME54 on the M602 and travelled contra at J11 M60 before failing to stop all the way to Prestwich.
“Having collided with stationary vehicles the occupants made off.
“One person was arrested for Burglary.”
The operation was carried out alongside officers from North West Motorway Police.
This comes after several other recent cases of crime and anti-social behaviour on the roads in Bolton and the surrounding area including a number of cases of cloned cars, speeding, thefts of vehicles and uninsured drivers.
Officers have appealed for anyone with concerns about similar offences to call 101 or 999 in the event of an emergency.
Alternatively, witnesses can call independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
