CHILDREN have been left devastated after vandals went on a wrecking spree - destroying the school greenhouse.
Yobs struck at The Oaks Primary School in Sharples sometime over the weekend in what staff have described as an inexplicable act.
The greenhouse is well used by children at the school, bringing lessons to life.
It the latest vandal attack at the school.
Headteacher Jo Grundy said: “The frustrating thing is Amy Shaw, our Eco Council Lead, came in at four o’clock on Saturday to water the plants so it was absolutely fine at four o’clock.
“It had to have happened on Saturday night or on Sunday. Our teachers do so much in their own time, going above and beyond for the children.
“Unfortunately we are finding ourselves suffering more and more at the hands of vandals, it is such a shame because our children deserve to have nice things as part of our curriculum offer.
"We are finding it increasingly difficult to not keep anything outside in case it gets destroyed.”
She said the vandals ruined all the hard work undertaken by the school’s Eco Council.
Vandals had tipped out all the plants and compost, effectively destroying the children's learning area.
Mrs Grundy said: “The value of the compost and everything is a loss, but it’s more about the time that has gone into it.
“They’ve ruined it for the children.”
She added: “Those plants had been grown for the last two months, and we won’t be able to do harvest now because that’s been thrown off.
“Our Eco Council Lead Amy Shaw has worked so hard during lunchtimes and after school with Eco Council members to create a lovely area, growing many different kinds of vegetables from seeds.”
If anyone has any information about the vandal attack please contact police on 101.
If anyone can help replace the items destroyed then contact the school at office@the-oaks.bolton.sch.uk.
