A STUDENT at Ladybridge High School has been chosen as one of Greater Manchester’s Young Citizens of the Year 2021.

The Greater Manchester Young Citizen of the Year Awards were launched to provide a platform for young people who had shown kindness, thoughtfulness, bravery or actions that had made a difference to our communities.

The awards were held at the University of Bolton and attended by the High Sheriff of Greater Manchester, Diane Hawkins JP DL, along with other dignitaries from across the country.

Year 10 student Faizan Sharief was named as one of the ten winners of the award following multiple nominations from people who recognised his kindness and efforts during the pandemic in helping GCSE students by creating free online classes and easy-to-understand educational videos on YouTube.

The videos covered a variety of subjects such as physics, biology, chemistry and maths and the feedback he received from his many followers was very positive.

Faizan said: “I provide a variety of learning resources through many platforms.

“With interactive quizzes and past exam questions along with covering the content, my aim is to provide as much information as possible through these sessions to help students become successful.”

“I feel very happy and proud of myself. This just goes to show that hard work is always rewarded.”

A spokesperson for Ladybridge High said: “We are immensely proud of Faizan in Year 10 who was awarded the title of one of ten Young Citizen of the Year 2021 winners.

Faizan has displayed incredible agency and demonstrates our school’s WISDOM qualities perfectly. Congratulations on your well-deserved recognition, Faizan.”

Ladybridge’s ‘WISDOM’ qualities include agency, commitment, curiosity, kindness, resilience, respect and teamwork.
