A man has been taken to hospital after a crash between a cyclist and a car.

Roads were reopened at around 2.50pm, approximately 11 hours after they first closed. Transport for Greater Manchester thanked road users for their patience.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said the incident is serious.

They said: "There has been a road traffic collision on Chorley New Road and Victoria Road involving a car and a cyclist.

"We will send more information when we have it."

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service said: "We responded to reports of an RTC involving a pedestrian, following a call at 04.50.

"We have taken a male patient to hospital."

A58 Victoria Road, Chorley New Road and Beaumont Road have been closed since around 4.00am because of a collision.

The road is still currently closed and traffic is becoming congested in the area.

Traffic monitoring website, Inrix, are advising drivers to take alternative routes as there is congestion to Horwich, along Chorley Old Road approaching the Beehive Roundabout.

There are also traffic delays on Wigan Road heading towards Bolton from the M61 as traffic looks for alternative routes.

Bus routes including the 575, 904, 913 and 920 services are being impacted as well as the bus route to Runshaw College.

The ambulance have been contacted for further information on the incident but it looks like the cordon will be in place for a length of time.
