A WOMAN attacked her partner with a screwdriver and a guitar while the pair were both under the influence of crack cocaine and alcohol.
Minshull Street Crown Court heard how police were called to the home of Joanne Hickey and Gareth Woods.
During the call a woman could be heard screaming in the background.
Officers performed a welfare check and found Mr Woods had been stabbed with a screwdriver and hit over the head with a guitar by Hickey.
Daniya Alvi, prosecuting, said: “The defendant told the officers she and Woods had been smoking crack cocaine all day and had been drinking alcohol.”
She later admitted attacking him with the screwdriver but claimed he had hit himself with the guitar.
Hickey, 48, of Wesley Close, Tottington, appeared in court after admitting assault The court heard Mr Woods, who attended the hearing, did not support the prosecution.
The prosecutor added: “Aggravating factors are that it was committed in a domestic setting under the influence of alcohol and drugs.”
Sophie Kenny, defending, said the pair had reconciled and had reduced their drug use to once a fortnight.
The court also heard Hickey had no previous convictions.
Passing sentence, Judge John Edwards said: “Violence in the home is no less serious because it is perpetrated by a woman rather than a man.
“Your better judgement was no doubt impaired by crack cocaine and alcohol.
“If incidents such as this recur the police are going to be less than impressed.
“The way you live your lives is entirely a matter for you and him.”
He placed the defendant on a 12-month community order with a six months drug rehabilitation requirement and also ordered her to attend 10 rehab activity days.
He also ordered her to pay £300 in court costs.
