A six-year-old is riding 100 miles in 30 days to raise money for Ukraine.

Oscar Wood from Blackrod streamed his very first ride on TikTok LIVE, receiving over 2500 likes.

He aims to have finished by the time he turns seven on May 15 after starting his first ride on April 14.

So far, the six-year-old has completed 51 miles and did 31 and a half miles in just one day.

In one week, Oscar managed to do 20 miles with his parents, Carolyn and Jonathan Wood.

His mum Carolyn said: “He’s excited to do it and has raised so much money.

“We are so proud of him especially because he came up with this all on his own.

“Oscar was really moved by the things he has been hearing on the news about Ukraine, so he told us he wanted to do something to help.”

Initially, Oscar wanted to ride 3000 miles but was eventually talked down to 100.

His mum said: “He’s never done anything like this before but is now doing so well on the rides.

“The first one was a little difficult for him going up the hills and he wanted to ride on flat surfaces.

“But the thing that spurred him on was showing him the amount of money that was being raised, so he loved that and wanted to continue.”

Oscar passed the initial target of £250 and has so far raised just over £500.

His school, Blackrod Primary School, have also been incredibly supportive to the six-year-old.

Oscar rides around Blackrod but on weekends and holidays, his family explore other areas such as riding to Blackpool.

His mum said: “We like to show Oscar different places to keep him motivated but on school days and between all the things he does after school, we have to stick to the local area.”

All the money raised will go to The British Red Cross for Ukraine.

Oscar hopes people will follow him and donate to his Just Giving page.

Carolyn said: “Oscar’s school have raised awareness and have been teaching them about what was happening.”

Oscar has also ridden his bike to Stockport and will explore other areas as he goes along.
