A WOMAN has died after being hit by a car in Leigh in the early hours of this morning.
Police were called to Kirkhall Lane at around 1.30am after being called by paramedics who found a woman in her 50s had been involved in a collision with a blue Mini Cooper.
The driver stopped at the scene after the crash and is now helping officers with their investigation.
PC Phil Collingwood, from Greater Manchester Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “First and foremost our thoughts remain with the woman’s friends and family who are understandably devastated.
“We’ve been following up a number of lines of enquiry throughout the night and we remained at the scene this morning carrying out a thorough investigation to find the answers the woman’s friends and family need.”
The blue Mini Cooper was being driven along Kirkhall Lane towards Atherleigh Way.
Police have now appealed for any witnesses or anyone who may have any additional information to come forward and help them with their investigation.
Witnesses can report information online using Greater Manchester Police’s LiveChat on www.gmp.police.uk.
Alternatively, they can contact independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously by calling 0800 555 111.
