A PRINTING company is making headstones for people completely free of charge to help with funeral costs.

Bolton business Hot Print Design has been making the free headstones from Aluminium-wood every day for the last six months.

Mohamad Faruk wanted to help cut costs for people during the pandemic as he thinks funerals should not cost a lot of money.

He said: “I think funerals are too expensive because the whole thing can cost up to £3,000 and headstones alone can cost £500.

“It shouldn’t be that expensive to bury a loved one. It’s an unnecessary cost for one day.

“We wanted to help people during a difficult time because we know how hard it must be.”

The company are offering the free headstones to anyone who needs one and make around 100 a week.

Mohamed said: “We wanted to help people and we would rather the money they would spend on a headstone be used elsewhere in the funeral, where they need it or perhaps to charity.

“It’s the month of Ramadan as well so we want to do something good for people as it’s a month of giving.

“This is going to save a lot of money for some people, and I want to say that anyone can access this, even if they aren’t from Bolton.”

The team make the headstones then let people collect them or send them to cemeteries to be collected from there.

If this cannot be done, people can arrange Hermes deliveries.

Mohamed said: “It’s also in memory of my mum who died when I was young. I’m doing this for her.

“When you go to a graveyard you see so many graves that don’t have a name, so it makes me sad that people may not have the money, or they might not know which one is their relative or friend.

“A headstone doesn’t even need to be fancy, it just needs the simple details and I think that if we can do this, then we can make a difference to someone.

“We hope to continue doing this so people can see what we are doing and take it up if they want one.”
