Just under 60 traffic offences, including two cases of drug driving, were recorded at a Bolton park in a single day earlier this week.

This comes after police launched Operation Vortex across the borough on Monday, April 11 with specialist officers from GMP’s Specialist Operations Branch deployed to a vehicle check site at Moses Gate Country Park.

The officers had been deployed with the instructions to proactively target drivers and vehicles that were making the roads unsafe

Inspector Joseph Barron, of GMP's Safer Transport Team, said: "Making Greater Manchester's roads safer is a priority for us - in 2021, 71 people died as a result of road traffic collisions.

"Hopefully, yesterday's day of action in Bolton builds public trust and confidence that we are committed to keeping people safe on our roads.

"Operation Vortex will continue across all of our Greater Manchester districts and we will take appropriate action against drivers who break the law."

In all 32 traffic offences were recorded, with 24 speeding offences and two offences caused by mechanical problems or vehicle condition.

As a result, two arrests were made for drug driving offences, while six vehicles were seized.

Anyone concerned about criminal or anti-social behaviour on the roads can call police on 101 or 999 in the event of an emergency.
