A bulldog trainer from Daubhill has won three accolades at a dog shows.
Martin Jones, 59, won 1st Veteran Dog at the Northern Bulldog Club Show in Swinton, with dog Jasmin Cymru Dancer of Daubhill, or Jaz for short. They also won Best Veteran In Show Overall at the event, which took place this month
Martin and Jaz then followed their win up with a recent second place win on the 27th March at the Pennines Bulldog Club Championship Show, which garnered Crufts qualification for Martin.
Martin has shown bulldogs since 1973, winning numerous titles including Best of Breed, Best in Show and many qualifications to Crufts, as well as exhibiting at the European Dog Show in 2015.
He said he was “chuffed” to have got into Crufts again, with this being his 20th time there.
“It’s a big thing for your first time, but after so long it becomes a normal show.”
He has also judged bulldogs for over 20 years and is currently a B-listed judge with the Bulldog Breed Council, but he has his eyes on the next level, which would make him a ‘Breed Specialist’ and allow him to judge larger competitions.
“I have judged 147 dogs, but to get to the next judging level I need to have done 180, so I’m not far off.”
Having been involved with bulldogs since he was 10, Martin has a strong affinity with the breed.
“Bulldogs get a lot of bad publicity, saying they can’t breathe and walk well, but Jaz is very healthy.”
