POLICE have been out conducting speed enforcement checks in Bolton this morning and are warning road users to slow down.
Equipped with speed guns, officers from GMP Bolton North Neighbourhood team have been out on duty this morning, catching and charging five separate people for speed offences in just a half-hour period.
A police spokesperson said: “We've only been out around 30 minutes so far at Belmont Road and Tonge Moor Road.
"So far 5 drivers have been stopped and either a [Traffic Offence Report] or a summons has been issued for excess speed.”
They added: “Please slow down.”
Operation Portman was launched in 2020 in response to concerns over the number of serious road incidents in the town.
Police have been conducting speed enforcement exercises across Bolton, including Westhoughton, Farnworth and Smithills.
Police say that their recent speeding crackdown has resulted in a 'massive reduction in serious injuries and fatalities.'
Community speed gun testing has also been put forward to help tackle speeding in the borough, meaning concerned homeowners are able to catch drivers going over the limit.
