A predator who abused a young girl in Bolton while she slept has been brought to justice.
Jamie Murphy filmed his sickening conduct which included multiple rapes of the youngster.
Bolton Crown Court heard his crimes came to light when police visited his home in the borough after believing he had been downloading indecent images of children.
Jacob Dyer, prosecuting, told the court: “Police explained the reason for their attendance.
“They were investigating the suggestion indecent images had been accessed from an IP address. The defendant places his head in his hands.”
While officers did not find evidence that indecent images had been downloaded, they did find footage of Murphy abusing a sleeping young girl.
When police spoke to the girl in question she said she had not been aware of what had taken place.
Murphy appeared in court on Friday (March 25) after admitting two counts of rape, six counts of making indecent images, three counts of sexual assault and one of voyeurism.
The 36-year-old, from Thirsk Avenue in Sale, cried in the dock for a large period of the court hearing.
Nicola Gatto, defending, said Murphy had endured a traumatic childhood.
She said his parents had separated at a young age and his dad had ceased contact when he entered a new relationship.
Ms Gatto said the defendant had been forced to move schools several times and had left education at 15 with no qualifications.
She added that he felt remorse for what he had done and hoped the girl’s mental health was not too adversely affected.
Imposing a sentence, judge Tom Gilbart said: “This was an utterly shocking case.
“What you did was use her body for your own sexual pleasure. You filmed the actions you performed on her sleeping body.”
Murphy was jailed for nine years and placed on the sex offenders’ register for life.
