The secretary for the Bolton League has welcomed the plans which could see cricket return to Bishops Road.
Plans were revealed earlier this month by Lancashire Cricket Club who announced that it is discussions to run a new summer programme for youngsters at the ground this summer.
Bolton League secretary Ray Taylor is excited that cricket could soon be returning to the club that was formed back in 1876.
He said: “It's great news cricket could be coming back to Bolton Cricket Club.
“In the past Green Lane was Bolton's premier ground, and although Bolton were never in the Bolton League, the Hamer Cup finals were played there after the second world war and in 1948 there was an estimated crowd of 16,000.”
The club has been unable to play cricket at the ground for a couple of years and the new summer programme could be a springboard for a full return of club cricket, with Lancashire currently assessing the state of the Bishops Road ground ahead of the return.
The news has been well received by the Bolton cricket public, as well as from council figures such as Cllr Mohammed Ayub who commented: “It’s really brilliant for the whole community.”
