Angry neighbours say their area has become an eyesore since rubbish was dumped over Christmas.

Residents living near Matchmoor Lane in Horwich say there are upset to find the neighbourhood riddled with bin bags full of household rubbish and construction waste.

They claim the rubbish has been left there for months.

Resident say that animals are ripping the bags open, sending rubbish into their gardens and flooding the area.

One woman said: “It’s been happening for two years but recently over Christmas someone dumped a lot of rubbish and it’s just mounting up.

“I have contacted Bolton Council numerous times and got nowhere.

“You don’t want to live near this. I may as well move to the tip at Raikes Lane.

“It’s just always a mess and it’s not nice when you live in a nice house but the road is looking like that.”

Another resident said: “We need it picking up soon as possible because this has been going on since December and since the bags are ripped, it’s going everywhere.”

A spokesman for Bolton Council said: “Our teams regularly respond to reports of fly-tipping.

“We will remove the fly-tipping at Matchmoor Lane, Horwich as soon as possible.”

The Bolton News has reported how the council is getting tough on fly-tippers, bringing them to court.

Recently, Bolton Council has cracked down on offenders with fines of £2,000 for anyone caught.

Cllr Hilary Fairclough has previously said: “Clearing up waste that has been illegally dumped not only costs the council and therefore the taxpayer, but it is an eyesore in the local community and damages the environment.

“Residents and businesses are reminded of their duty of care to dispose of their own waste in a responsible and lawful manner.

“Tackling environmental crime like fly-tipping is a key priority for this council and these prosecutions and substantial fines send a clear message that if you dump your waste, you can expect to face the consequences.

“I encourage residents to report incidents of fly-tipping to the council on their website.”
