FIVE PEOPLE from across Bolton have been taken to court and fined for flytipping over the last week amid a wider crackdown in the borough.
Each of the flytippers, who committed their offences between August and November last year, was given a fine of £2,000 alongside an order to pay total of £4,000 each in costs.
In most cases, the waste was found dumped in backstreets behind housing and ranged from bin bags of rubbish to furniture and even a bath.
Bolton Council deputy leader Cllr Hilary Fairclough said: “Clearing up waste that has been illegally dumped not only costs the council and therefore the taxpayer, but it is an eyesore in the local community and damages the environment.

“Residents and businesses are reminded of their duty of care to dispose of their own waste in a responsible and lawful manner.
The people hit by fines were all prosecuted in court after failing to pay fixed penalty notices.
They included Ara Ahmed of Wheatfield Street, Bolton, fined £2,000 and ordered to pay £631 costs and £190 victim surcharge.
Julianna Balog of Sandon Street, was fined £2,000 and ordered to pay £526 costs and £190 victim surcharge.
Aron Dunne of Ashworth Street, was fined £2,000 and ordered to pay £573 costs and £190 victim surcharge.
Jozsef Kozak of Alice Street, was fined £2,000 and ordered to pay £526 costs and £190 victim surcharge.
Finally Melinda Serban of South Street, was fined £2,000 and ordered to pay £573 costs and £190 victim surcharge.

All of them have been fined over the previous week, though their offences were committed last year.
The council has also moved to fine businesses that have broken waste disposal laws over the last year and Cllr Fairclough says the enforcement team is prepared to take further action in future.
She said: “Tackling environmental crime like fly tipping is a key priority for this council and these prosecutions and substantial fines send a clear message that if you dump your waste, you can expect to face the consequences.
“I encourage residents to report incidents of flytipping to the council on our website.”
