FIREFIGHTERS in Bolton are staging a charity car wash as part of the borough's effort to help the people of Ukraine.
The charity car wash is one of the many fundraisers and collections taking place across Bolton to help those in the war torn state.
Bolton Central Fire Station is inviting people to bring their cars down for a wash - or even help out by washing the cars.
The car wash will take place on March 19 at the station on Moor Lane between 10am and 4pm.
Firefighter Chris Spary said: "People can show their support just by coming down getting their car washed by the firefighters, and just giving whatever they can spare, anything from a few pennies if they feel like it or whatever they can spare in the tub.
"We are hosting the event with proceeds going to the Ukrainian relief fund, we usually do it for a firefighters charity but we are changing it this year for the Ukrainian Fund.
"We are all about community, obviously being firefighters, so we just want to show our commitment to all the communities, especially the Ukrainians at the moment.
"Anyone can come down, if they want to spend five minutes and wash some cars with us then they're more than happy to, they can do that.
"Or if they just want to come down and get their car washed, that's fine as well."
Bolton Lions based in the Market Place Shopping Centre are also supporting Ukraine.
They have partnered with International Aid Trust and are appealing for support from the local community to support the refugee efforts related to the current crisis in Ukraine.
The charity is taking in toiletries and dried foods with a shelf life of 12 months for their Ukraine Crisis Appeal every Saturday, which will then be taken to the International Aid Trust warehouse in Chorley before distribution.
The Bolton Lions, which has a shop on the ground floor of Market Place, will be open each Saturday to receive items from 10am until 2pm.
Cllr Arthur Price is also showing his support by arranging a fundraising evening at Westhoughton Masonic Hall, Brookfield, Peel Street on April 1.
The evening will be a night of music from The Harper Bros with international soul star, Matt Phillips.
The proceeds raised from the evening will be shared between Fortalice and to the Ukrainian appeal, with tickets priced at £20 each.
The tickets include a pie and pea supper and a night of entertainment.
