OLYMPIC hero Sir Jason Kenny will receive the town’s highest honour later this month by being given the Honourary Freedom of Bolton.
The star cyclist, from Farnworth, has been chosen for the award thanks to his Olympic record of seven gold medals and two silvers.
The Honorary Freedom of Bolton will place Sir Jason alongside sporting icons like Nat Lofthouse.
Council leader Cllr Martin Cox said: “Sir Jason Kenny’s achievements have been a great source of pride for Bolton and he has inspired so many to work hard and achieve their goals.
“The Honorary Freedom of Bolton is the perfect way to mark an outstanding career and his contribution to our borough’s sporting legacy.”
Sir Jason's award will be received on his behalf by parents Lorraine and Michael on March 16.
Mayor of Bolton Cllr Linda Thomas, said: “Only a select few are granted the greatest honour that Bolton can bestow, and Jason is a more than worthy recipient.
“I am sure everyone in Bolton will join me in congratulating him on this latest accolade and in wishing him the best for his well-earned retirement.”
