Carl Grundy, who is the Landlord of the Vulcan pub on Junction Road and his daughter Ava, have once again stepped up to support their local hospice.

In 2021 customers of The Vulcan pub and their staff team raised £581.31 for Bolton Hospice, and this year they have kindly chosen to support the hospice once again by collecting donations – raising an incredible £1,093.

The wonderful pair are also organising a family fun day for the hospice this summer.

Carl gave his reasons for supporting the local hospice.

He said: “We had a first aid course at the pub; we did CPR and trained on a defibrillator and last year during lockdown as we lost two of our locals who both sadly died of heart attacks.

“Ozzy our darts captain and Paul Settle the dad of Lou who works at the pub, so we decided to raise money to buy a defibrillator to be sited permanently at the pub to serve not only the pub but the local community.

“We raised the money but a good friend of the Vulcan, Chris Houghton of local business EVENTURA, stepped in and supplied the pub with the defibrillator plus a case for it to sit in. This gave us the opportunity to donate to Bolton Hospice using the funds raised. I think it’s a first for a pub in Bolton but hopefully not the last as these machines help save lives.”

Bolton Hospice fundraising manager Kathryn Willett said: “We would like to thank the staff and customers at The Vulcan Inn for their amazing donation.”
