A NEW drama filmed in one of Bolton's most architecturally stunning buildings has got the nation talking.
Bolton School takes centre stage in the new BBC drama Rebel Cheer Squad, effectively the sequel to the hit teen drama Get Even — which was streamed one million times in just two weeks when it first aired in 2020.
And viewers have been asking whether children actually 'go to that gorgeous school' reports online entertainment magazine Bustle.
Rebel Cheer Squad is available on BBC iPlayer, with scenes filmed in Bolton School, which has become a popular location for many hit dramas in recent times.
In the series it is known as Bannerman Independent School, attended by friends Clara, Grace and Rumi.
They discover that a Cheer squad team member is the victim of bullying. The stakes are heightened further after an incident at a showcase performance. To figure out what really happened, the three girls vow to become the new 'Don't Get Mad' secret society and expose the culprit.
Lashay Anderson plays Clara, Amelia Brooks is Grace, Ashling O’Shea is Rumi.
Often compared to Hogwarts, filming took place in and around the school and its picturesque grounds.
And the series even caught the eye of our American cousins.
When Get Even aired, Cosmopolitan US even wrote an article about the school, stating: "Wait, sorry, why didn’t I go to school in a castle?"
Bolton School often lands a starring role in popular TV series.
It was featured in the powerful drama It’s A Sin on Channel 4.
Stephen Fry was at the school to film scenes.
The money made by Bolton School through filming goes towards the bursary scheme which opens the gates to bright students regardless of their background.
Adele Hughes, Events Manager at Bolton School: "We were delighted to welcome back the production team for the second series of Get Even, ‘Rebel Cheer Squad’. Bolton School has so much to offer with its wonderful buildings and extensive grounds. Our established events team has many years’ experience working alongside production companies ensuring they get the best out of their time with us."
The full series of Rebel Cheer Squad is now available on the BBC iPlayer.
