WANDERERS returned to winning ways with an emphatic 4-0 victory against Wimbledon at the UniBol.
Jon Dadi Bodvarsson, Dapo Afolayan, Dion Charles and Amadou Bakayoko were all on target as Ian Evatt's men moved within seven points of the top six.
Here are four key takeaways from the game.
Bodvarsson gets off the mark
Bodvarsson kicked things off with a clinical header from Aaron Morley’s corner – his first goal since joining Wanderers last month.
The Iceland international hadn’t played much football this season before arriving at the UniBol and has had to be patient as he continues to build up his sharpness.
But he impressed against Burton on Tuesday night and is starting to show the Bolton fans what he is capable of.
The Whites now have real depth in the final third and Ian Evatt has yet another selection headache ahead of Tuesday night’s clash with Lincoln.
Bakayoko continues his prolific form
Amadou Bakayoko came off the bench to score a brilliant glancing header after getting on the end of Marlon Fossey’s cross.
It was the forward’s ninth goal of the season in all competitions and he has now scored four times in his last six matches.
Bakayoko’s early Bolton career was impacted by a series of injuries but he is now looking back to his best.
His form might have gone slightly under the radar given Charles and Afolayan’s recent performances but the former Coventry man is proving to be a very effective striker at this level.
A new midfield partnership?
Evatt made the bold decision to leave out MJ Williams, who has played a crucial role in the Whites’ system this season.
But his decision certainly paid off, with Aaron Morley and Kyle Dempsey impressing as a midfield pairing against the Dons.
Morley has already made a big impact since his move from Rochdale and Dempsey is also showing signs of promise.
It will be interesting to see whether the pair continue to play alongside each other or if Dempsey is pushed back into the number 10 role, which he played at Oxford last weekend.
Johnston continues to shine
George Johnston clearly has lots of talent but has struggled to nail down a place in Evatt’s starting line-up at times this season.
However, the former Liverpool youngster has gone from strength to strength since Wanderers switched to a back three.
Johnston’s new role allows him to showcase his passing range and ability on the ball, and he will continue to improve the more he plays.
