A MAIN road has reopened following a two car crash this morning which has left a number of people seriously injured.
Emergency services were called to Blackburn Road in Egerton just before 8am.
An air ambulance was also scrambled.
The road remains closed between Greens Arm Road and Cox Green Road and enquiries continue into the cause of the crash.
A 38-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drug driving and is currently in custody.
A Lancashire Police spokesman said: ""At around 7.57 today, Saturday February 19, Lancashire Police responded to a report of a two vehicle collision on Blackburn Road, A666, Darwen.
"Three occupants of a Seat Ibiza were transported to hospital with serious injuries, with two occupants of a Mitsubishi Outlander transported to hospital with minor injuries.
"Whilst an air ambulance attended the scene to support, all causalities were transported via NWAS road ambulances.
"The road currently remains closed for investigative work to continue.
"Police are appealing for witnesses who may hold dash camera footage of this collision to contact Lancashire Police on 101 quoting LC-20220219-0319, or contacting CrimeStoppers anonymously."
