A SCHOOL is cracking down on parents parking irresponsibly by imposing sanctions on pupils.
Bolton School boys' division has laid down strict rules following parking problems and school closing and opening times .
The Bolton News has previously reported on residents' concerns about the way parents park when dropping off children.
Philip Britton, Head of Foundation at Bolton School told The Bolton News:"We regularly review road safety around our campus.
"Our focus is on pupil safety and by re-establishing the clear guidelines on the usage of safe crossing points and where children should not be dropped off, we hope to further enhance the arrangements we already have in place.
"We are already beginning to see improvements and I hope that parents and pupils will continue to adhere to these rules for their own safety and that of others."
Under the new rules children are being told they should only cross Chorley New Road, where the school is, using the pelican crossing.
Children should only be dropped on on Dobson Road by the playing fields and beyond the double yellow lines on Tudor Avenue — with pupils again using the pelican crossing.
Parents and carers are being prohibited from stopping on either side of Chorley New Road 'as this causes issues with the coach drop-offs and traffic safety'.
The statement issued by the executive committee of the governing body states: "Pulling onto pavements where large numbers of pupils are walking is not safe'.
The new rules were issued following a review of road safety around the site.
The statement issued by governors reads: "All schools have issues with traffic at pick-up and drop-off and our focus is on pupil safety.
"We already deploy a considerable amount of resource in terms of people and infrastructure, for example the movable bollards, to create safe crossing points and to identify areas where pupils should not be dropped-off.
"We appreciate the school run can be stressful and time pressured.
"The safety of all pupils must come first."
The governors warn: "To ensure that boys understand the importance of being safe, and for older boys being good role models, any boy found crossing or being dropped off where they shouldn't be will be required to attend a road safety briefing one lunchtime that week.
"Repeated attendence at such briefings will result in some other more routine school sanction.
"We appreciate that this may need a change of routine or route but we do feel that this 'reset' on our behaviours around the school site is needed for safety reasons."
Parents are being urged to respect local residents when using nearby streets and not use Chassen Street, which is access only.
A local resident said: "As a cyclist it has been very, very unpleasant.
"It's a no go zone for cyclists, especially when people are opening their car doors.
"We will see how long it pans out.
"Long may the new rules continue because it has been a blight on the lives here."
