A Bolton mum who has been diagnosed with stage two Invasive Ductal breast cancer, is raising money for three charities by hosting events to keep herself busy.
Lisa Clemmett, 44, from Smithills, found a lump in her right breast on Boxing Day whilst she was poorly with Covid-19 and just thought it was a swollen gland due to her being ill.
Speaking about her diagnosis and the reason behind these events, Lisa said: "I found a lump on Boxing Day, I was poorly with Covid at the time and I discovered the lump on my right breast and because I was unwell, I didn't think too much of it.
"I thought maybe it was a swollen gland or something, but after a couple of days my partner, Rob, said 'I think Lisa you need to go and get it checked out'.
"So I made an appointment on New Year's Eve and went to the doctors and he said 'I'm going to refer you for an urgent mammogram'.
"Within two weeks, I had an appointment at the breast clinic and within an hour and a half, I'd had an examination, then I had a mammogram, then I had an ultrasound scan.
"It was like a conveyor belt, I then went into the next room, they sat me down, and said they're quite sure it's breast cancer.
"So I had a biopsy a week later on January 27 and she said I'm really sorry but it is breast cancer.
"We do think because we have found the lump early and got to the doctors, they have found it in time and they don't think it has spread to my lymph nodes but they will remove some of my lymph nodes to send off for biopsy to see if the cancer has spread.
"It is bad news what I have been given but it could have been a lot worse.
"When I got my results, I was like omg what am I going to do, what am I going to tell my children, I've got four children and I'm a single mum and then I just couldn't sleep at night.
"So I just thought, I'm going to do something, I'm going to do a charity event to keep my mind occupied because otherwise I'll start thinking the worst."
Lisa has set up a Cancer Research fundraising page for people to donate money to her three chosen charities; Cancer Research, Macmillan and Bolton Hospice at the same time as hosting two charity events.
The first charity event Lisa is hosting is a 'Lets get it off your chest' charity night with a DJ, a singer, a raffle, an auction, name the teddy, jewellery and sweet cones that Ellie, Lisa's daughter, has made, stand up bingo, a glitter make-up artist and cupcakes on sale.
The 'Lets get it off your chest' charity event will take place on Friday 11 at Halliwell Roundhouse and the entry is free.
Not only are they hosting a huge charity event on Friday, Lisa's son Jack is hosting a charity football match on March 19.
Lisa said all are welcome to raise money for these three life-changing charities.
"I just want to obviously raise as much money as possible for cancer and raise awareness before I have my surgery and start treatment.
"My children have been my rock through all of this and I'd be lost without them. They are so inspirational."
