National Pizza Day is celebrated on February 9 every year and gives an opportune day to tuck into the classic Italian food.
What people have on their pizza itself often sparks much debate, especially if it concerns whether pineapple belongs as a topping.
With regards to what the nation's favourite topping is Foodhub, the online food ordering platform crunched over eight million pizza orders placed via the app and website to determine the most popular topping in celebration of National Pizza Day.
It was revealed that Pepperoni got the number one spot, with 7.3% of orders received having it on there.
Pizza topped with the spicy Italian American sausage pipped last year’s winner, the Margherita, which took second place with 4.5% of orders.
Meat Feast, Vegetarian and Donner meat rounded up the top five favourite toppings.
Ardian Mula, Foodhub spokesperson, said: “We’re a nation of pizza lovers in the UK and nothing beats sharing the classic cheesy Italian dish with family and friends, so toppings often have to appeal to more than one person.
“It’s fascinating to see how the nation’s taste has changed compared to last year’s orders, pepperoni trumping the classic Margherita in 2022. We can’t wait to see what this year brings – who knows, a vegan option may take the top spot - crazier things have happened!”
Additionally, Foodhub is offering a 10% discount on all pizzas on February 9, which can be accessed on the Foodhub website by inputting the code PD10 at checkout.
