A MYSTERY farce will have audiences at the edge of the seats while laughing out loud.
St Vincent's Dramatic's Society is bringing Murder Room to the stage this month.
Jack Sharkey's mystery farce is set in Bynewood Cottage, just outside Harrogate, Yorkshire.
Mavis Templeton Hollister and her lover plan to kill her wealthy husband Edgar, and seem to succeed quite quickly and easily – but have they?
With the mystery surrounding Edgar's disappearance being investigated by two different members of the Harrogate Police Force, as well as the interfering housekeeper, things get quite complicated.
Then to add to the complications for Mavis and her lover, Edgar's daughter arrives, along with her American fiancé.
As with many local amateur societies, St Vincent's were planning to perform this play in 2020, but had to put all plans on hold as the Covid pandemic hit.
However, the producer Irene Holmes and the cast battled on, with the production team impatiently waiting to finish the set, and get back on stage.
St Vincent's Dramatic Society was formed 27-year-ago, and would normally aim to put two plays on each year.
A spokesman for the society said: "At times it seemed doubtful whether the society would ever manage to put their play on. However, the members have been fired up with a determination to succeed. Under new leadership, with lots of team work and dedication, the play is in final preparations.
The set build is the brainchild of Owen Riley (R.I.P.) and Bert Halliday, but has truly become a team effort. Bert has assisted and advised during its completion by new members Christopher Ward and Brian Heaher, with the committee stepping up to complete set decoration and dressing."
Performances will be from Wednesday, February 16, to Saturday, February 19 at the Parish Centre, Rutherford Drive, Over Hulton BL5 1DJ. Tickets can be ordered by ringing 07958 111971 or 01204 594922, or by emailing stvincentsds+tickets@gmail.com
