A SCHOOL which children enjoy attending each day has been given a glowing report by the Government’s education watchdog.

Cherry Tree School in Farnworth has been lifted out of the requires improvement category to be graded good in every area.

Ofsted inspectors described the school as ‘positive and welcoming’ and children achieve ‘well in different subjects because of leaders’ high expectations’.

Inspectors reported: “Pupils are proud that everybody at the school is treated equally.

“Pupils learn the importance of doing their best at their work and play. They learn to persevere when they encounter difficulties because of the skilful support of their staff.”

The extra-curricular timetable was praised for helping children ‘thrive’.

“Pupils achieve well at the school because of the broad and ambitious curriculum leaders have put into place,” stated inspectors, who visited the school over two days.

Teachers were recognised in the report for planning activities that ‘motivate pupils and challenge their thinking’ and pupils were found to behave well in class and around the school.

Headteacher Mary Fraser said: “We are part of the Orchards Federation - which consists of Green Fold Special school and The Orchards Nursey.

“We have worked so hard – particularly over the last two years – with the pandemic to keep as much normality for the school as possible.

“We pride ourselves as not only supporting our children academically but also emotionally, concentrating on not just physical health but also their mental health.

“The last few years have been difficult for so many but the resilience of the children and families of Cherry Tree has been inspirational. I couldn’t be prouder of the judgment.

“Everyone in the school – the fantastic children, hardworking staff and supportive parents, carers and Governors have worked tirelessly to demonstrate what a great school we are.

“The judgment backed up what we knew and we are so pleased that even going through such a difficult time as the pandemic, this was recognised by Ofsted.

“All areas of the school were graded good and we will continue to work hard and support all of our Cherry Tree community.”
