Bolton’s Covid-19 vaccination boss is urging people to get their booster jab.
Around 49,000 people in Bolton who are eligible for the vaccine have yet to get it and bosses are now calling for people to be fully jabbed.
Dr Helen Wall, senior responsible officer for Bolton’s Covid-19 vaccination programme, has made a video addressing some of the reasons people give for not getting boosted.
In the video, she explains why you need the booster, whether you are pregnant, or think you’re fully vaccinated after two doses of the vaccine, or have had Covid.
She also addresses concerns about side effects, fertility and mixing doses.
Dr Wall said: “Many people in Bolton have had their first and second doses, but too many - for whatever reason - have not come forward for their booster.
“This could be because they think that they are fully vaccinated after two doses, but immunity starts to wane with time as it does with many vaccines.
"That’s why it’s important to get your booster to ensure the best protection.
“Some EU countries are already requiring travellers to have a booster if their second dose was some time ago, and others are expected to follow suit.
“Even if you’ve had Covid you should get your booster. Natural immunity is very unreliable, but the vaccination will provide a good level of immunity.
“And, unfortunately, we have had a number of pregnant women admitted to hospital with severe Covid.
"I can assure mums-to-be that it is safe to get the vaccine at any stage of pregnancy to protect them and their babies; also, there is no link between the vaccine and any effects on fertility.
“Covid is not going away: infection rates are still high, so we really need people to get vaccinated.
“Even if you think that you are young and fit, please get jabbed. Young people are being admitted to hospital with Covid and hundreds of thousands of under-35s are experiencing the long-term effects of the virus.
“It takes minutes to get your Covid-19 booster, but it can take much longer to recover from Covid-19.”
