TONY Kelly thanked the Wanderers fans after being presented with a special memento for his services to the club and community during Saturday’s game at Shrewsbury.
The former Burnden Park favourite was given a silver plate by members of the Bolton Wanderers Remembrance Group during the half-time interval at the Montgomery Waters Meadow.
Kelly officially left the club earlier this year after taking redundancy, having previously served as a player, coach and fans’ liaison officer.
Speaking at half time, the former midfielder affectionately known as ‘Zico’, now 56, said he had appreciated the messages of goodwill during a difficult time in his personal life.
"I'd like to thank the Bolton fans,” he said. “I lost both my parents and I take my hat off to the fans, because they have been there. God bless you all."
Fans met before the game with Kelly and other former Wanderers, including Michael Brown, Gary Henshaw, John Thomas, Mark Came and Neil Fisher.
BWRG president Steve Hague presented the award in front of a packed out away end as Wanderers went on to win the game 1-0 with a late Dion Charles goal.
