A SCHOOLGIRL was taken to hospital after a collision involving a bus this afternoon.
Police and emergency services, including the North West Air Ambulance, were called to the scene on Turton Road, Bromley Cross, Bolton at around 3.15pm to reports of an accident.
A girl had been injured while crossing the road and was taken to hospital in the air ambulance with injuries that are not believed to be life threatening.
A person who lives nearby said: "Many residents including myself have written to the council asking for a safe crossing to be installed as the kids have to cross on a blind bend to get to school each day.
She added: "I don’t know how badly injured this poor girl is but the air ambulance has just taken her away."
The road is well known in the area as a crossing point for children on the way to and from school, but has faced persistent complaints over the lack of a pelican crossing.
The road closure this afternoon lead to delays of up to 20 minutes for drivers.
Police have confirmed that no arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.
