TWO Fire engines attended a crash involving a HGV driver on Georges Lane, Horwich, yesterday.
Fire crews from Bolton Central and Bolton North attended the scene at 14:21pm, following reports that the driver was trapped in the van and the van was on its side.
However, when firefighters attended the scene the driver was safely pulled out of the vehicle by Bolton Mountain Rescue.
There were no other vehicles involved in the crash.
Emergency services and police also attended the scene, and the man was taken to hospital by paramedics as part of a routine check.
On the way to another job nearby, the Deputy Team Leader Chris, from Bolton Mountain Rescue, was driving on George's Lane, when he saw a heavy goods vehicle tipped over, trapping the driver in the cab and blocking the road.
They then phone North West Ambulance Services, Greater Manchester Fire Service, and Greater Manchester Police whilst Chris dealt with the incident unfolding.
Lee Donnellan managed to capture the scene whilst driving past, and said: "The wagon was upright by the time I passed by, but I believe from looking at the damage it’s clear it had been on its side.
"The front end was seriously damaged and much of the side was too.
"I have no idea how this could have happened though, it’s on a long straight road, but was at a junction with Matchmoor Lane.
"There was quite a lot of work going on to rescue the vehicle with a limited road blockade to do so.
"I’m perplexed as to how this happened.
"By the time I attended, I couldn’t see any ambulances or fire engines although I do believe they had already been on-site."
