Police are investigating after men entered a supermarket in Bolton armed with weapons and threatened and restrained staff members inside.

Three men in balaclavas entered the Co-Op on Chorley New Road in Horwich in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Police were called shortly after 6am after reports of a disturbance.

During the course of the terrifying incident the men helped themselves to cash and cigarettes before making off from the area inside a vehicle.

No injuries were reported and no arrests have been made.

A GMP spokesperson said: "Police were called just after 6am on Tuesday 28 December to a report of a robbery at a Co-Op on Chorley New Road, Horwich.

"It was reported that three men in balaclavas with weapons entered the store, restrained and threatened staff, and stole cash, as well as a number of cigarettes, before making off in a vehicle.

"Anyone with information, or CCTV or DashCam footage of the area at the time are being urged to share it with police.
