A MAJOR housing developer are forging ahead with a deal which could see nearly 700 homes erected on a former golf course in Little Hulton.

Bosses at Countryside confirmed last month they have purchased land comprising the former Brackley Golf Course for £39.3m.

And now the housing giant will press ahead with proposals to build 690 properties - alongside Bellway Homes which will build half of that total.

An outline planning application has already been granted for the sprawling site, near the M61, two years ago.

Blueprints will now be submitted by Countryside next month for the finer details of the development.

The promised estate will include two-bedroom semi-detached and four-bedroom detached homes.

The company says all of the houses will be substantially built off-site before being brought to the location.

Joe Turner, managing director, Manchester and Cheshire East, Countryside, said: "We have an excellent track record of repurposing derelict and vacant premises and converting them into sustainable communities where people can be proud to live.

"This exciting development will be yet another example of us doing just that.

George Stevenson, land director of Bellway Homes' Manchester division, added: “This will be a considerable development that will deliver much needed family housing.

"It is exciting to finally get the site acquisition over the line so we can start planning and implementing the delivery of 345 homes.

“Bellway is pleased to be partnering with Countryside on this important development for the area. The collaboration will ensure we convert this derelict site into a new state-of-the-art development that local people can be proud of.”

Work on remediating the site, which has been targeted by squatters, is expected to begin in March.
